GILMAN MOM | A Trilogy of Perspective

Wide Release: February 22, 2020 / Limited Release: June 2, 2019   CC-BY-SA

The summation of Gilman Mom’s journey. The gradient of a boy becoming a man; a saga documenting the alteration of confused deprecation into confident buoyancy of maturity.

A Trilogy of Perspective is a compilation of Gilman Mom’s three releases, a rejuvenated progression that highlights the overall goal of the project. In a sense, this is considered to be the one true Gilman Mom album. This is the culmination of the Gilman Mom project in ultimate final form: one cohesive opus.

What follows below are accounts of the three works that comprise ATOP.

GILMAN MOM | I Forgot To Tell You

June 17, 2016   CC-BY-NC-ND

I Forgot To Tell You begins the tale of Gilman Mom in a fuzzy burrow lined with voicemail and looming Hollywood presence. Slowly, Gilman Mom wades in the bog of uncertainty, attempting to decipher the blurred emotion of the room.

GILMAN MOM | Manifest Destiny

August 21, 2017   CC-BY-NC-ND

Manifest Destiny is Gilman Mom’s vulnerable sophomore album. It explores a bog of emotional conflict. Gilman Mom stumbles through a moody, rainy night on a path that eventually leads to self-discovery, mental peace, and a paradigm shift. The album was eventually recaptured on film.

On November 15, 2017, a visual representation of Manifest Destiny was released. The film provides a backdrop for the listener to further immerse themselves in the world of the piece and is “somewhere between a home movie and an art film”.

Tracks “Right Person Right Time”, “Macaque”, and “Montana” all do not appear on A Trilogy of Perspective. This is because Gilman Mom considers them non-essential tracks and effectively “B-sides” despite their placement on the initial release of Manifest Destiny.

GILMAN MOM | Revisionist History

Revisionist History aims to capture and explore the warmness, reverence and wonder of summer as an adolescent before it’s forgotten to the sands of adulthood. Gilman Mom accomplishes this with the use of field recordings, fluttery instrumentation, and vulnerable spoken word. Revisionist History closes out the emotional trilogy of Gilman Mom albums, concluding in a place of acceptance and security.
